Performance Troupe at Mount Pleasant Ice Arena is an exercise in experimentation, creativity, teamwork, civility, improved skating, performance and FUN!
The fundamentals of skating are drilled and practiced. The theory and notion and ways of performance are introduced during our off-ice time. The kids begin to become comfortable with themselves and the group and the professionals via warm up exercises, creative games and projects and improvisation. Then, we combine the on-ice skills with what we have worked on off-ice and build a new and original skating piece. My adult troupe, Fine Wine, works only on-ice with much time put to improving edge work and power and one's ability to skate with others in formations and patterns. The new work of both troupes becomes the centerpiece for our two annual shows.
Performance Troupe is one way for youngsters and adults to enjoy an aspect of skating, performance, which is underrated and under practiced. We take troupe and performance seriously but the seriousness doesn't overwhelm. I believe, as creative director, in being inclusive and passionate and holding kids and adults to a high standard.
