World Champion and Olympic Competitor Kimmie Meissner got her start here at Mount Pleasant Ice Arena’s skating school. Our skating school is fun, challenging and rewarding. Regardless of age, it is a great sport for everyone — preschoolers, youth, teens, adults and seniors. Skating is a sport that can last a lifetime!

Whether your goal is to learn to play ice hockey, figure skate, aim for the Olympics, learn to skate backward, improve your overall health and fitness, impress your friends, or just to have fun on the ice, you can find it with the Basic Skills program at Mount Pleasant Ice Arena. Join today!

    Welcome to Mt. Pleasant Ice Arena - Learn To Skate Program

Our Learn to Skate program for children (ages 5 and older) and adults, follows the
U. S. Figure Skating Basic Skills curriculum which consists of Snowplow Sam 1-2-3, Basic 1-8 and Freestyle levels. Our objective is to provide a fun, safe and rewarding skating experience for the beginner as well as the more advanced skater. Please note that you must be a member of U.S. Figure Skating's Learn to Skate Program. This is an annual membership and once you are a member, you may register for as many classes as you wish under that membership number from July 1st of each year through June 30th. All memberships in the Learn to Skate Program expire on June 30th of each year.You may sign up here for your membership for Learn to Skate. We will need your registration number on file for each registered class.

Learn to Skate Overview:

  • 30 minute class  (Freestyle classes 1/2 hr with limited class size) 
  • 30 minute practice session
  • 4 complimentary passes to public sessions
  • Rental Skates are available, at no charge if needed during the lesson
  • Limited class sizes, classes grouped by age and skating ability 
  • Registration for classes are processed on a first come, first serve basis
  • No registrations will be accepted the first day of classes. All skaters must be pre-registered.
  • No refunds issued
  • Missed classes can only be made up during the current session
  • All children ages 5-6 are required to wear a well-fitted bicycle helmet
  • It is recommended that all skaters should wear mittens or gloves as well as one pair of knee high socks or tights

Series 1:

Saturdays, January 5th-February 16th, from 12:30-1:15pm advanced skaters only, Levels: Basic 6 and up

Saturdays, January 5th-February 16th, from 1:15-2:15pm for all levels & adult only classes

Mondays, January 7th-February 18th, from 5:00-6:00pm for all levels & adult only classes

Series 2:

Saturdays, February 23rd-April 6th, from 12:30-1:15pm advanced skaters only, Basic 6 and up

Saturdays, February 23rd-April 6th, form 1:15-2:15pm for all levels & adult only classes

Mondays, February 25th-April 8th, from 5:00-6:00pm for all levels & adult only classes

Series 3:

Saturdays, April 13th-May 18th, from 12:30-1:15pm advanced skaters only, Basic 6 & up

Saturdays, April 13th-May 18th, from 1:15-2:15pm for all levels & adult only classes

Mondays, April15th-May 20th, from 5:00-6:00pm for all levels & adult only classes

Series 4:

Mondays, June 3rd-July 15th from 5:00-6:00pm for all levels & adult only classes

Series 5:

Mondays, July 22nd-August 26th from 5:00-6:00pm for all levels & adult only classes

Series 6:

Saturdays, September 7th-October 19th from 12:30-1:15pm advanced skaters only, Basic 6 & up

Saturdays, September 7th-October 19th from 1:15-2:15pm for all levels & adult only classes

Mondays, September 9th-October 21st from 5:00-6:00pm for all levels & adult only classes

Series 7:

Saturdays, October 26th-December 7th from 12:30-1:15pm advanced skaters only, Basic 6 & up

Saturdays, October 26th-December 7th from 1:15-2:15pm for all levels & adult only classes

Mondays, October 28th-December 9th from 5:00-6:00pm for all levels & adult only classes
